Kind Burnley pupil's two year hair-raising plan for charity

A hair style two years in the making has finally been cut, so a generous young boy could one day raise money for charity.

Ryan Grindley, a Year 6 pupil at St James's Lanehead CE Primary School in Briercliffe, grew his hair especially so he could one day shave it off and raise money for the Little Princess Trust, the charity that provides real hair wigs free of charge to children who have lost their hair due to medical treatment.

He lost his locks at his recent school fair and will now donate his hair to the charity, as well as sponsorship money.

His proud mum Laura Grindley said: "Ryan decided to grow his hair two years ago and he saw an advert for the Little Princess Trust that inspired him to continue growing his hair and then when it was time for it to be cut off it could be put to good use. He thought that this would be a good idea.

"Ryan is a very thoughtful and caring young man and he loves to help others. He is very well liked by his friends and family. We are all very proud of him for making this decision and it just shows what a caring young man he is.

"We have all supported him through the growing of his hair as he has encountered hurdles along the way. Ryan has been mistaken for being a girl and sometimes this has been hard for him, however he has manged to get through those difficult moments.

"He has always kept his end goal in sight and has actually grown quite fond of his hair. He is looking forward to it being cut off because of the weather and he did say that he may even grow it back."

Ryan hopes to gain more sponsors in the next week but a few family members have offers to donate the total sum of £50 to the Little Princess Trust.
