The students, who were devastated to have their final year at school brought to such an abrupt conclusion, had been worried that their final results would not reflect their ability and the tremendous amount of hard work that they had done both before and after lockdown.

They need not have worried as a third of all the subjects taken received the top grades of 8 and 9 with a magnificent 20% of these at the highest level of 9. The grades the students have achieved were supported in every case by an extensive collection of evidence and were well deserved in every case.

Many students have excelled individually, not least school Head Boy Sam Chatburn, who received the highest grade of 9 in every one of his ten GCSEs, which is a huge achievement given that in addition to his academic work, he has been involved in all areas of school life and at the time of lockdown was preparing to take a lead role in our whole school production.

All the students have received the grades they need to move on to the next stage of their education and many are moving on to prestigious sixth forms to take A-Levels or to vocational

courses to lead them to careers in areas of particular interest such as agriculture or musical theatre.

School principal, Jane Buttery, said: “These students are part of a wonderful year group and we are delighted that they have received the acknowledgement they deserve. They are all great individuals and who have shown strength of character and good humour in the most difficult of circumstances.

"We will miss them, but we are immensely proud of what every one of them has achieved.”
