Exhibition honour for ‘Happy’ Morgan

An art student from Nelson and Colne College is all smiles after her photograph was selected to feature in an exhibition at The Strand Gallery in London.

Morgan Ottewell’s (17) photograph was selected form more than 1,000 entries to feature in the display, before being announced as the runner-up in the British Humanist Association competition.

The theme of the contest was ‘Happiness’, so Morgan decided to capture a memorable moment when she was with one of her closest friends.

The shot was also chosen as the promotional image for the whole exhibition on the gallery’s website.

Morgan said: “I was really shocked when I found out I had been selected, I really wasn’t expecting it at all.

“Being named a runner up in this competition while I am so young has made me think I can do anything in the future if I set my mind to it.”

The judges said that Morgan’s entry felt intimate and personal and they could feel the individual behind the images.
