The school in Byron Street has appointed previous deputy headteacher Phill Walsmsley to the role of headteacher.
Previous headteacher Mrs Vicky Povey was appointed in 2016, the second person to hold the post following the departure of Dawn Forshaw who led the school when it first opened in September, 2014.
The reasons behind Mrs Povey's departure are not known and the Burnley Express has contacted Burnley High School for comment.
The Burnley Express revealed last month that trustees of the school, part of the Chapel Street Community Schools Trust, had decided it was in the best interest of the pupils to transfer to a new Trust.
The Regional Schools Commissioner for Lancashire and West Yorkshire has approved Education Partnership Trust to be the new sponsor of Burnley High School.
EPT is a local Trust which currently leads five schools, all in Blackburn and Burnley.
The transfers are subject to the usual due diligence process but it is hoped EPT will become the sponsor in early summer.
