Burnley bus firm to add extra buses on key routes as students prepare to return to school

The Burnley Bus Company is to step up services on several of its most popular services ready for the area's return to full-time education.

The bus firm said the changes to routes serving Burnley Colne, Barnoldswick and Clitheroe would help to ensure plenty of space is available on board its buses for safe social distancing.

Timetables on the following services will change from Sunday, March 7th.

- Mainline M1 and M2: Burnley – Padiham – Accrington or Clitheroe: Service M2 to Clitheroe is increased on Monday to Fridays to run every 30 minutes instead of hourly, with some journeys at busy times slightly retimed. Meanwhile the dedicated 801 buses between Accrington and Burnley, and 802 between Burnley, Padiham and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School are reinstated, with all journeys on these special services reserved for students only.

- Mainline M3, M4 and M5: Burnley – Nelson – Colne – Trawden, Keighley or Barnoldswick: On Monday to Fridays, service M5 to Barnoldswick will increase from hourly to every 30 minutes, while some trips at busy times will be slightly retimed. Some early Monday to Friday M5 buses will be extended to start from Burnley Bus Station, while extra Monday to Friday journeys from Burnley to Colne on service M5 will run at 3.32pm and 4.07pm.

- Pendle Wizz: Burnley – Colne – Skipton: Monday to Friday timetables will return to pre-lockdown frequencies, including an extra morning journey.

The Burnley Bus Company’s General Manager Steve Ottley said: “With the return of students to our local schools and colleges, it’s important that we ensure that all our buses remain clean, safe and ready to go as they have been throughout the pandemic, as we ensure we’re there when our customers need us for essential travel.

“Together with the schools and colleges, we’re asking students to use the additional buses set aside for them – the 801 between Accrington and Burnley, and the 802 between Burnley and Clitheroe.

“All usual Transdev and The Burnley Bus Company passes will be accepted on these dedicated student buses.”
