The Marsden Building Society Charitable Foundation awarded £3,000 to Carers Link Lancashire to fund bi-weekly well-being sessions for carers aged 50+ in Burnley, Barrowford, Nelson and Colne.

Founded in 2014, Carers Link Lancashire provides opportunities for unpaid carers to seek advice, socialise and take a break from their caring duties. This donation funded bi-weekly meetups, each with a different focus including music and the arts, foraging, outdoor pursuits such as archery, fire building and outdoor cookery, felting and allotment sessions.

The sessions, delivered in partnership with Harwes Farm CIC, aimed to provide respite opportunities and enable unpaid carers to meet people in similar situations, creating support networks and peer support groups.

Rob Pheasey, Chief Executive of the Marsden Building Society, said: “This initiative provided a valuable lifeline for carers in Burnley and the Pendle area. Supporting our communities is extremely important to us and it’s our goal to make meaningful contributions to the neighbourhoods we serve. Through the Marsden Building Society Charitable Foundation, we’re proud to support valuable projects like this, which serve to improve the lives of people living within our local communities.”

Since launching its Charitable Foundation in 2023, Marsden Building Society has awarded 22 grants so far, totalling just over £60,000. The funds are managed by the Community Foundation for Lancashire, which works closely with organisations to help ensure their charitable donations have the greatest impact where they’re most needed.

The Marsden Building Society Charitable Foundation aims to support projects in Lancashire focussed on three key themes; financial well-being, societal inclusion, and the environment. For more information about the Foundation, visit www.themarsden.co.uk.
