Matthew, who has appeared as a judge on the popular BBC show, The Apprentice, and met with influential business leaders such as Sir Richard Branson, sees huge benefits in learning from mentors.

He said: “I have been lucky to have been afforded a wealth of advice from so many different people in varying capacities and I think it’s important to keep doing this as they are looking at things from a different perspective and with a different skill set.

“The Northern Mentoring Programme is a fantastic idea and I wish there had been something like this to access when I started out. I would strongly recommend all businesses to get involved.”

Jaydee Davis, operations manager at Community and Business Partners, added: “While businesses gained valuable mentoring support provided through programmes such as the BOOST mentoring programme that we deliver, a lot of these businesses were looking for continued support.

“This programme also allows us to reach out to those businesses that cannot access publically funded support, but who would still benefit from the mentoring.

“We have an extensive pool of talent and are able to provide mentoring expertise from all industry sectors and to all areas of a business such as finance, HR and sales to marketing, so it made perfect sense. The Northern Mentoring Programme will enable businesses to utilise different mentors with varying areas of specialism when they need it most.

"An independent, trusted mentor helps you to see and focus on the really specific challenges in your business and reap tangible bottom line benefits.”
