Charities given £5,000 boost thanks to Padiham rotarians

The Christmas cheer filled residents of Padiham helped rotarians raise £5,000 this year for good causes.

For the "Santa's Sleigh" event was one of the most successful of the year for Padiham Rotary Club.

The man in red always takes time out to accompany members of Padiham Rotary Club on a tour of the area so youngsters can hand over their Christmas lists and their parents can make a donation to a worthy cause.

Club members held other events during the year with president Dave Alexander at the helm.

The money was handed out at a special dinner at the Higher Trapp Hotel in Simonstone where Dave also presented his chain of office to new president Alan Ravenscroft.

After a pie and pea supper, members and guests were entertained by Pat Ashcroft who spoke about her trek across the Arctic at the age of 76 and the Flat Cap trio who sang a selection of traditional Lancashire songs.

Dave said: "It was a great evening and good to have the opportunity to meet representatives of the charities we have helped and also for them to see what we do."

Donations were made to the following charities: Air Ambulance and Pendleside Hospice (£1,000 ).

Guide Dogs for the Blind, Sea Cadets, Padiham on Parade, Padiham Cricket Club, Padiham Football Club,

Blood Bikers and Rosemere Cancer Foundation (£250 each). Molly Rigbys Old Soldiers (£120)

Padiham Archives and Meals at the Methodist Church, Burnley ( £100)
