Theatre Review: Tull at the Octagon Theatre, Bolton

And wouldn’t you just know it after saying that the following production, this one, doesn’t have any stage design at all?

Hardly surprising really as the scenes change so rapidly in this play so it is left to the cast to set the scenes for us – and what an admirable job they do.

The title role goes to Nathan Ives-Moiba who makes his professional debut, while the rest of the cast each take on an abundance of roles as they handle the quickfire change of characters with such consummate ease that it is seamless.

“Tull” is a world premiere production that presents the remarkable and inspiring life story of Walter Tull, the first black outfield footballer to play in the old First Division in Great Britain. It is thought-provoking, educational,and emotional and, as one expects from the Octagon, something that little bit different.

Just like the hero of this play, the Octagon has achieved many goals and as long as it continues to test itself with such fine scripts as this, it will continue to win over new admirers.
