Theatre Review: The Rise and Fall of Little Voice

This is a story of how a shy young girl finally finds her own voice after finding comfort in impersonating the voices of others, namely singing stars such as Shirley Bassey, Gracie Fields and Edith Piaf. It is a perfect platform for Katie Elin-Salt and she responds in grand style, belting out the songs with gusto and acting her socks off.

But even Katie would have to acknowledge that the most impressive performance of all came from Sue Devaney who played her mother. Indeed it was the mother of all performances from Sue, who has played various roles on television.

When you take into account these two cast members and add a polished supporting cast, you can see why it received a standing ovation.

It may have taken a while for the young girl in the title role to find her voice, but this production speaks volumes for the capabilities and the stature of the Octagon.
