The Garrick to perform ‘Funny Money’ at ACE Centre, Nelson

The comedy, written by Ray Cooney and directed by Barbara Simpson, is the third of resident theatre company The Garrick’s 2010/11 season.

Protagonist Henry Perkins mistakenly picks up the wrong briefcase on his way home from work and finds it contains £2,000,000 in used notes.

He decides his reward for years of hard work has finally arrived and he will keep the money, much to the consternation of his wife, Jean.

But if getting the money was easy, keeping it proves harder, as not one but two policemen call, not to mention Bill, a cheeky taxi driver.

Henry, his best friends Vic and Betty, and a bemused and tipsy Jean, are forced into a frantic game of cat and mouse.

Hilarious innuendo and cruelly funny turns of fate ensue as the couples assume all sorts of identities in their battle to keep the money.

Whether they succeed or not is the basis for this brilliant and entertaining farce.
