Borderline to perform ‘Playhouse Creatures’ at Colne Muni

THE all-female cast of Borderline’s next production at the Muni Theatre, Colne, are busy rehearsing Playhouse Creatures.

Written by April de Angelis in the early ’90s, the play is set during the turbulent historical period which saw the emergence of the first professional actresses on the English stage.

Producer Richard MacSween said: “Although the play is set in the 1660s, it is a modern play.

“It depicts the lives of five actresses, the most famous of which is Nell Gwyn, and the struggles they face for equality and for their professional reputations, which are as relevant now as they were then.”

The script’s blend of historical fact, drama, comedy and human interest engages the audience and the themes of power, wealth and sex remain perennial in life, politics and the performing arts.

The play will run from Wednesday, March 9th, to Saturday, March 12th, and tickets cost £5 in advance, or £7 on the door. To book, or for more information call the box office on (01282) 661234.
