Taking a chance on ABBA glory!

DANCING queen Angie Preston would like you to take a chance on her!

For Burnley girl Angie is part of the ABBA tribute band ABBANOW widely regarded as the top tribute band around to the supergroup. Angie (44) plays the part of Frida and the band are to stage an open-air concert in Scott Park, Burnley, on August 6th.

Angie, who lives in the Manchester Road area, said: “I joined the band just over three years ago and I love it. The band has been going strong for more than 10 years but recently it has become very busy and successful due to the popularity of ABBA thanks to Mamma Mia.’’

Angie now performs with ABBANOW all over the UK and it is the group’s musical attention detail that has earned them their place as one of the leading tribute bands. Their backing tracks are produced and recorded in a studio using a studer, a tape to tape reel, recorded in exactly the same way as the original ABBA. And Angie sings in the same style as Frida, producing a replica sound to that of the original band. All of the costumes worn by the band are also exact replicas of the original costumes.

For many years ABBANOW have been entertaining audiences at many large outdoor events, music festivals, theatres, racecourses and hotels. Past venues include the Special Olympics, playing to a crowd of 5,000, Party in the Park at Bicester, Party in the Park at Chester and The Reebok Stadium. ABBANOW have also performed at private events for many celebrities including Chris Evans, Barbara Windsor, Sally Lindsey, Matt Lucas and many corporate functions for companies including BT, Jaguar, Toyota UK, and Lush. Performing on her home turf is something that Angie is looking forward to!

She said: “It should be a fantastic open-air concert on the bandstand in the park.”

Angie lives with her husband Chris, also a musician, who performs with the band Slack Alice.

The couple have two daughters, Jess (17) and 18-year-old Rhiannon. Tickets for the ABBANOW concert are £5, available from Burnley Mechanics on 01282 664400.
