Scrooge to get new twist

ST CUTHBERT’S Operatic and Dramatic Society were the first local society to perform the “Christmas Carol” musical story -“Scrooge” - way back in 2000.

Since then it has been done by various other societies and now St Cuthbert’s have chosen it again for the 2011 season - but “Scrooge The Musical” is a completely re-written version of the well known story so it is one not to be missed.

The show will be staged in St Cuthbert’s Hall in Burnley from November 7th to 12th but auditions will be coming up soon and rehearsals begin in May, so if anyone is interested in taking part they need to be giving it some thought or contact the group’s chairman, Alan Woodworth, for more details.

He said they are really looking forward to tackling the new musical and are keen to welcome anyone new - but what they need most is a pianist - or two - to accompany rehearsals and for show week. “We will welcome any new members but desperately need a pianist, even to accompany us at rehearsals even if they can’t do the show,” said Alan, who can be contacted on 01282 457766.

Rehearsals will be on Tuesday evenings beginning on May 17th and audition dates will be announced later. The society’s annual meeting is on March 22nd at 7-30 p.m. and is open to anyone interested in becoming involved.
