Sahara’s hot sound

THERE’S no sign of a drought when it comes to Burnley band Sahara’s ambition, song-writing or goodwill .

The exciting, on the rise four-piece are putting their ever-increasing following to charitable use by holding a special one-off gig to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Taking place on Friday, April 29th, at the Pendle Hippodrome Theatre, Colne, the gig coincides with the 100th show of frontman Nick Waite – who at just 19 is already shouldering quite a reputation.

“With it being my 100th show we wanted to do something special so we decided to play a gig at the Pendle Hippodrome, which is somewhere I’ve never played before. We then thought it would be nice to do it for charity and so we decided on Cancer Research UK.

“It should be a good gig, we just want as many people as possible to come along and help us support a good cause.”

Sahara, which comprises Nick (lead vocals and guitar), James Hull (lead guitar and backing vocals), Sam Cleasby (bass) and Thomas Walsh (drums), are definitely not a band who are sitting back waiting for their career to take off.

Four albums have already been recorded and Nick says he’s ready to get into the studio and begin recording the next one.

“As the button was pressed to stop recording on the fourth album I was ready to get back in and record the fifth,” said the prolific songwriter. “It’s something that I just love doing. I’ve been going for six or seven years but the band Sahara as it is now has been going for around three or four.

“I was kicked into playing music by my dad from a really young age. When I got to high school I started playing guitar and it’s gone on from there really. One of my biggest influences is Oasis and our sound definitely has that rock n’ roll sound.”

With a bright future seemingly on the cards Nick just wants the band to carry on putting in the hard work.

“We’re just going to keep on playing as often as possible. We’re on an independent label at the minute so the next thing for us is to look at getting signed on a major one and hopefully that will happen at some point this year.

“We’ve played all over the country and when the first album came out we were actually touring Belgium and France so we’ve got a quite a good following overseas as well.”

Sahara can be seen a bit closer to home at Koko’s, Elizabeth Street, Burnley, on Friday, March 25th, before their charity gig in April.

Tickets for the Hippodrome show are £5 and available by calling the box office on 01282 863210 or 07812 476675.
