‘Pavarotti of the organ’ Carlo Curley to perform in Padiham

IN what is an extraordinary coup for a small East Lancashire town, internationally acclaimed organist Carlo Curley will perform in Padiham this weekend.

The larger-than-life American virtuoso – often described as “the Pavarotti of the organ” – will star at the latest in a series of charity concerts hosted by Padiham’s Nazareth Unitarian Chapel. These concerts, featuring a variety of artists, always draw a good crowd, but this Saturday’s (March 5th) should be a sellout.

Carlo Curley’s self-proclaimed mission is “to establish the organ at the forefront of musical instruments, even if it takes the rest of my life”, and he has already gone a long way to achieving that. He is a true showman who seduces audiences with his keyboard fireworks, entertaining patter and sheer enthusiasm.

In a popular programme, mainly of his own transcriptions of famous works, every varied colour of the chapel’s magnificent Phoenix digital organ will be given a chance to shine.

Tickets for the concert, which begins at 7-30 p.m., are £8 including refreshments and available from Barry Brown on 01282 773336 or by e-mail to: [email protected]

Donations will be made from this series of concerts to the North West Air Ambulance and the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.
