This follows a recent decision of Lancashire County Council's cabinet to re-establish Earby Library in the New Road Community Centre, rather than in the former library building.

The service is Earby will start on Tuesday April 17th from 12-30pm to 2-30pm, and will visit every two weeks. The mobile library will be located on Victoria Road, near to the Pendle Borough Council buildings and the bus turning circle.

It will continue to visit until the permanent library is ready to open at the New Road Community Centre.

County Coun. Peter Buckley, Lancashire County Council's cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: "Libraries are a vital service at the heart of our communities, offering free access to books and information. They are also a place where communities can get together.

"It was always our intention to reopen a library service in Earby. As the building where the library had been based isn't in good condition and not well-suited to operating a modern library service. Following discussions with members of the community and local councillors, we decided to reopen the library in the nearby community centre.

"There is lot of work required to convert part of the community centre to make it suitable for library use. We don't know exactly how long this will take, so as a temporary measure and whilst the work is being carried out, we have extended the mobile library service and introduced this new fortnightly stopping point in Earby."

The future of the former Earby library building, which is owned by the county council, is due to be reviewed.

A new mobile library stop will also start in the Rosegrove area of Burnley on Monday April 16th between 2-45pm and 3-45pm.

The mobile library will stop on Lowehouse Lane, near to the former library building. It will visit every two weeks after it has commenced in this location.

County Coun. Buckley said: "We've again been able to extend our mobile library service to provide a new stop in Rosegrove.

"I am committed to making sure that the residents of Lancashire have good access to a library service.

"The mobile vehicles will carry a wide range of books to suit all tastes. The titles will be changed regularly, with new ones being added frequently. Books can also be ordered, just the same as in a static library and a variety of audio books will also be available."

The units are fully accessible for people with mobility problems and disabilities. They are fitted with low rise stairs and a passenger lift for easy access so that customers can board to select their own books.

The mobile libraries reach some of the most remote parts of the county, and are particularly important for people who would find it difficult to travel to their nearest library.

Communities in rural areas usually receive visits either every two or three weeks. Currently there are nearly 10,000 people registered as mobile library users.
