Music review: Dolly Parton Blue Smoke World Tour

Most 68 year-olds like to take it easy. Not singer Dolly Parton. It’s in her blood to entertain and she certainly knows how to.

She is clearly enjoying her world tour and her leg in Britain is bringing in the crowds, with Leeds and Manchester next on her list of venues.

Parton teases that “it takes a lot of money to look this cheap,’’, but cheap she ain’t. Instead she is a slick pro, who knows how to entertain and has the audience eating out of her hand with her tales of childhood as one of 10 children, poor as church mouses, but with the love of her parents to keep her going.

The songs are good too, with firm favourites “9 to 5’’ and “Islands in the Stream’’ blending in well with tunes from the new album Blue Smoke.

A true perfectionist who will be here to entertain for a long time if her British tour is anything to go by!
