Manchester Camerata come to Colne Muni

Manchester Camerata launches its new season in Lancashire with a concert packed with romantic string repertoire on Sunday, November 6th, at 2-30 p.m. at the Muni, Colne.

This is a chance to hear Manchester Camerata’s dynamic young leader, Giovanni Guzzo, direct a programme of romantic string music, including Mendelssohn’s masterful String Symphony no. 10, and his lesser known D minor Violin Concerto, resurrected from obscurity by the young Yehudi Menuhin.

The programme is completed by Sibelius’ wistful and intimate homage to love, his Rakastava, and Schubert’s famous Death and the Maiden String Quartet, in an arrangement by Gustav Mahler for string orchestra.

Later concerts see a programme of Chamber greats on March 4th 2012 at 2-30 p.m. at the ACE Centre, Nelson; and a concert thenned Music and Love on Sunday, April 29th, at 2-30 p.m., again at the The Muni, Colne.

This is a big season for Manchester Camerata with the arrival of its new music director, Gabor Takacs-Nagy - the esteemed Hungarian musician and conductor. Gabor is no stranger to Lancashire having played across the region in recent years, and with local family connections - his wife Lesley is originally from Burnley. Gabor says he’s thrilled to be performing in Nelson and Cole with the orchestra.

“Life is not easy in the 21st Century; it is full of challenges and in some places conflict. For me music is a great leveller, it is a universal language often signified by its beauty and truth and I look forward to exploring and sharing this exciting mission with you all, my English friends”

Audiences in Colne will get the chance to experience the Gabor magic on April 29th 2012 in Camerata’s Music and Love at the Muni.
