Lancashire ready for battle of the bands

HOMEGROWN bands fighting to have their sound unearthed are being given the chance to break through to the surface.

Eight bands will be pitted against each other over two Burnley heats, for a battle of the bands competition where the winners could get the chance to play one of the world’s largest live music festivals, Liverpool’s Sound City.

The first heat of “Oh To Play Sound City” takes place tomorrow night at The Talbot, Church Street, and will feature hip-hop band Twisted Scriptures, teenage angst driven rockers Effluence, the indiest of rock courtesy of Metonia and the deep blues rock of Linus. Special guest on the night will be Goldblade frontman John Robb.

Two bands from each of the Burnley heats will go through to the semi-finals at the Grand, Clitheroe, along with eight bands from the Blackburn and Accrington area and two wild cards winners.

The nights in Burnley are being promoted by Andy Pawlicki, through his production company The Suicide Monkies, and Burnley ambassador Fil Evo in partnership with Tony Wilson legacy Sound Investment.  

The semis take place on Friday and Saturday, April 15th and 16th, with the final taking place at the ACE Centre in Nelson on Saturday, May 7th.
