THE countdown to this year’s Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival is well underway.

With more than 600 musicians performing at eight venues during the four action-packed days, Colne is definitely the place to be for music fans over the Bank Holiday weekend.

From Friday, August 26th until Monday, August 29th thousands of local, national and international music-lovers will be treated to some of the best Blues tunes in the world.

As usual there will be some popular, well-known names gracing the Muni’s International Stage, including Jack Bruce, Steve Cropper and Robin Trower.

From the USA there will be James Hunter, Grammy Award winner Mavis Staples, Sherman Robertson, Gospel singer Sharrie Williams and Muddy Waters’ eldest son Mud Morganfield.

Highlights on the British Stage will include Joni Fuller, the Gary Fletcher Blues Band, featuring Pick Withers – original drummer with Dire Straits – and the very popular The Cats, who took the Acoustic Stage by storm last year.

The festival is not just about the music though. This year there will be a funfair, street entertainers and buskers as well as face-painting and art.

Festival organiser Alison Goode said: “Each year we try to make this an event for the whole family to be part of and enjoy.

“We have had the street entertainers and buskers for the last few years now and they have gone down a treat and we hope they will entice people to come and join in this, our 22nd festival.

“Once again this year’s festival should be one of our best to date.

“We are extremely proud of our line-up and the feedback we have had from fans so far has been fantastic.”
