Folk legend Cecil Sharp remembered at Burnley Mechanics

Eight of the world’s leading folk musicians came together earlier this year for the unique project – living and working together for a week to create new music and songs reflecting the life of the man responsible for the modern resurgence in folk music.

They will be at Burnley Mechanics on Thursday, January 26th – the first and only chance to see the concert in the north of the country.

The project was jointly commissioned by Shrewsbury Folk Festival and the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) and was partly funded by Arts Council England and the PRS Foundation.

Project manager Neil Pearson said: “The results of the week-long residential truly exceeded all our expectations.

“We knew from the audience reaction that they had made something very special and it only seemed right that we should take the Cecil Sharp Project on the road for others to enjoy.

“With two of the musicians being from America and Canada, this is likely to be a very rare chance to see this project come to life again – we just don’t know when, if ever, they will be performing together again.”
