Elizabeth Stansfield’s proud night

Elizabeth Stansfield was highly commended in the young volunteer of the year category at the MWR Lancashire Sports Awards 2011 last Friday night.

The 17-year-old, from Colne, has been a volunteer for the past three and a half years, helping with tennis lessons and the disability club at Pendle Leisure Centre.

Elizabeth has also recently been chosen by Coca Cola to be a Future Flame Ambassador, meaning she will help raise the profile of volunteers for the 2012 Olympic Games.

She was the face of the Future Flames launch and appeared on ITV’s Daybreak.

Elizabeth was among many coaches, rising stars and sporting champions who were recognised at a glittering ceremony staged at The Hilton Hotel, Blackpool, hosted by Sky Sports news presenter and rugby league reporter, Angela Powers.

The eight award categories and 74 nominees were judged by former England captain, Jimmy Armfield OBE, Jane Booker of MWR Solicitors and former Burnley FC chief executive Dave Edmundson from the Football League Trust.

The ceremony, sponsored by Preston’s MWR Solicitors and celebrating its 10th year, brings together representatives from Lancashire’s 14 local authority districts to celebrate the achievements of the county’s most talented amateur sportsmen and women of all ages, and those who coach and support them.
