Comic Jason Cook brings the laughs to the Sparrow Hawk in Fence

Comics vying for the top prize at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival are to fine tune their acts at a Fence pub.

The Sparrowhawk, in Wheatley Lane Road, is to play host to the cream of the comedy circuit in the run up to the world-famous festival and the battle for the coveted Edinburgh Comedy Award, formerly the Perrier Award.

The pub is carving out a reputation as the go-to venue for comedy in East Lancashire with their regular HaHa Comedy Club night dragging in crowds from across the area.

Manager Neil Morley said: “The comedy nights have been a great success so we are delighted to be hosting some of the comedians who will be performing for big crowds at the Fringe.”

Yesterday Michael J. Donlan and Alfie Moore tested out their shows and on Monday, June 20th, Danny Pensive will preview his show “Broadens The Mind” – alongside Tony Jameson and Davey Connor.

TV panel show favourite Jason Cook, best known for his appearances on Russell Howard’s “Good News”, will also be making an appearance at the pub on Monday, July 11th, when he will work up his act with Chris Ramsey also on the bill.

All the shows are at various stages of preparation and are therefore classed as works in progress.

Tickets are £8 from www.hahacomedyclubs.co.uk or in limited numbers from the pub on a first come first served basis. Doors open at 7-30 p.m.
