Amazing engraver comes to Stonyhurst College

AMAZINGLY skilled engraver Graham Short will give a talk and show his incredible work at Stonyhurst College this month.

Graham, who recently engraved “Nothing is impossible” on the cutting edge of a razor blade, has achieved national acclaim for his extraordinary engraving in minute detail.

He is an amazing example of someone totally committed to his art and one of the last hand engravers left in the UK. He engraves in miniature such things as the Lord’s Prayer on the top of a pin.

To do his work he has to keep amazingly fit so his heart beat is slow enough for him to do his work between heartbeats! He only works at night to avoid traffic vibrations and uses needles less than a hundredth of a millimetre wide.

His method of working is fascinating and his work is becoming extremely collectable and commanding a high price. Graham is keen to visit Stonyhurst and talk to the students, but the college is also opening this opportunity to all.

He will be bringing examples of his work to the event (which are seen under powerful magnifying glasses).

The event will take place on Wednesday, September 21st, at 7 p.m. in the college’s Top Ref and will cost £10 a ticket. For more information or to reserve tickets, which must be paid for in advance, call Mrs Sallie Holgate on 01254 827234 or e-mail [email protected]
