ABIDING by the sentiments of their own reinventive track, a new Burnley band are ready to cause a stir in the modern music industry by driving a "revolution for change".
Wayne Walsh (rhythm guitar and lead singer), Lee Walmsley of Spitfire fame (bass guitar and backing vocals), Pete Wakeford (lead guitar) and Christian Taylor-Hilton (drums) make up The Shift – a fitting name for a band that wants to remould and move forward from the current Indie sound.
With almost 40 years combined experience in music, the ambitious four-piece have the desire, drive, knowledge, talent, energy and belief to achieve whatever they want to.
The Shift may have only been together for 10 weeks, but their coming has been the result of three years hard work from Wayne and Lee that hacome to fruition. Their commitment and the determination to succeed that should be fully appreciated by those lucky enough to sample their new material.
Lee said: "We want to make a living out of this. We are always writing and recording new stuff and we just want to try to reinvent indie or this new wave of indie.
"A lot of bands are the same these days and just reproduce the same stuff. The industry needs a fresh approach and a fresh new sound and this is what we are aiming at. We are just working class lads who love our music and really want to get things going."
The band get their influences from the likes of The Smiths, the Levellers and Jimmy Hendrix, which helps to create a subtle, intricate and progressive indie-folk sound. They have recently recorded two albums worth of new songs and it's worth checking out the best of them, including "Something About That Girl", "Make Believe" and "Change", at myspace.com/the shift or on their website at
www.the-shift.co.uk.
Lee added: "This is what we want to do. We want to break into the music industry. We have got plenty of experience between us and we have all been playing and gigging for a while. The band want to set out in a new direction and create a new sound. The music industry is going a bit stale at the moment.
"Our gigs so far have gone really well; the venues were packed and we went down well with everyone there. We just want people to know about us and come and check us out."
n The band will be playing at the Hacienda Bar, inside Koko's. on Friday along with The Vibe. For tickets, which are priced at £4, contact Lee on 07548 881020.
