Salon plan for former Padiham cinema

A former cinema and furniture store in Padiham is set to become a hair salon and taxi booking office.

The building in the former Globe Works, Mill Street, was a cinema from 1987 to 1989 when it became a manufacturing unit.

Padiham Town Council supported the building opposite Molly Rigby’s club being brought back into use, but a nearby neighbour was concerned at the prospect of another taxi booking office.

In a letter to Burnley Council’s Development Committee, which passed the application, the resident stated: “What can this new business bring to the town that the existing six taxi companies in Padiham do not?

“Taxi booking offices are noisy places, and we are greatly concerned about noise and nuisance during the early hours.

“Parking is also at a premium on Mill Street, which is extremely narrow. Due to the proximity of the proposed booking office and narrowness of the street, any vehicle parked opposite may block us in.”

But a report to the committee stated that the car park building sits behind a small wall, railings and trees.
