MAY the second be with you was the call on Bank Holiday Monday when Turf Moor hosted a Star Wars convention.
Fans old and young of the cult sci-fi series of films again flocked to Burnley to meet actors and buy memorabilia.
Star attraction this year was Michael Henbury, the UK’s shortest man at 2ft.11in., who played an Ewok in Return of the Jedi and is also set to star in the final Harry Potter film.
He said: “This is my first visit to Burnley and the people here have been very friendly. I was actually working in customs when I was approached to appear in Return of the Jedi. It was a life-changing moment. I went on to appear in Labyrinthe and Willow, and I’m also going to be in the final Harry Potter installment.”
Dozens of fans also attended in movie-accurate costumes of characters from the films including Darth Vader and R2D2. There were also model displays, craft activities and a charity raffle.
Organiser Neil Livesey said: “Visitor numbers were slightly down on last year though we still had 900 people through the doors. The main thing is that everyone enjoyed themselves and we will hopefully be back next year.”
