Film review: Plastic

Crime does pay in Julian Gilbey’s fast-paced caper, which centres on enterprising university student Sam (Ed Speleers).

He is the intelligent and brazen ringleader of a team of campus friends comprising Fordy (Will Poulter), Yatesey (Alfie Allen) and Rafa (Sebastian De Souza), who turn to credit card theft in order to supplement their income and keep their student loans to a minimum.

During one of their cons, they accidentally rob a notorious gangster named Marcel (Thomas Kretschmann) and he demands they pay him back 10 times the pilfered funds, plus interest.

It’s a tall order for Sam and his pals but they set about their task with gusto and head to Miami in the company of credit card company employee Frankie (Emma Rigby) to pull off an audacious jewellery heist that will set them up for life.

Sam watches in horror as members of the team become greedy and betray one another.

With the deadline to repay Marcel looming, Sam resolves to complete the scam and bring down the gangster in the process to ensure he and his friends are safe from reprisals.
