Valerie Randle aims to cook up a treat on Come Dine with Me - and is hoping she shows all the right ingredients to help her to get a job.
Valerie, 54, was until recently the branch manager at Johnson’s Cleaners in Burnley until it closed down three weeks ago.
She has since been honing her cooking skills while looking for work and will appear on Channel 4s popular show next week, starting on Monday when she hosts the first dinner party.
“I have always loved cooking since I was little and it was a friend who suggested applying for the show and she sent me a link,” said Valerie, who lives near Turf Moor.
“I went through the various stages and had to have a screen test where they came to Burnley and filmed me in my Johnson’s uniform running down the street and doing various tricks - it was a lot of fun.
“I was then contacted and told I have been successful and we filmed it in February but I haven’t been able to say anything until now.”
Valerie was billed as the ‘Lancashire lass’ and her menu was Lancashire-based.
“I used all ingredients from local butchers and grocers and I made butternut squash and Ormskirk potato soup, Lancashire hot-pot for the main course, which had a full bottle of red wine in it, and then Bene trifle.
“I can’t say a lot about my fellow dinner guests except they were diverse!
“It is the first time I have been on television but it was quite relaxed. I am hoping I made a good impression as I am looking for a job now so I need this to help me!”
Come Dine with Me is on weekdays at 5pm.
