BURNLEY Mechanics has been named as one of the top venues in the North-West.
Staff celebrated after hearing that the council-owned theatre had won a Highly Commended award for excellence for a small visitor attraction as part of this year’s Lancashire and Blackpool Tourism Awards
Coun. Jeff Sumner, the Burnley councillor in charge of leisure and culture, said that the accolade would help put the theatre on the map. He said: “The Mechanics is a wonderful venue, full of character, that is popular with users and visitors alike and this award just reinforces its reputation. The award is also a reflection of the hard work and dedication of staff and everyone else associated with the theatre and they should be very proud of their achievement. If you haven’t visited the Mechanics, I’d urge you to do so and discover why this lovely theatre is a prize winner.”
The Mechanics was assessed by a panel of experts and industry professionals and visited by a “mystery customer”. Towneley Hall was also assessed and was short listed for an award.
