Burnley Youth Theatre will present a new play tomorrow that spills with magic and wonder.
The Wizard of Oz re-imagines the classic story by L. Frank Baum in the youth group’s signature style.
In this version, Dorothy is a lonely girl who lives in a children’s home and is determined to find her father after receiving a mysterious copy of his favourite book, The Wizard of Oz.
But before she has a chance, Dorothy is swept up in a dream-like storm, finding herself in Oz itself and meeting a raft of colourful characters, including Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion and The Wicked Witch of the West.
Making up the principal cast are: Shakira Kahn (Dorothy); Hakim Kahn (Sid/Scarecrow); Gregory Worden (Timothy/Tin Man); Caitlyn Bowden (Laurie/Cowardly Lion); Joshua Marsden (The Wizard of Oz/Father to Dorothy); Kayley Lonsdale (Ms West/Elphaba, Wicked Witch of the West); Io Limmer (Miss Linda/Glinda, Good Witch of the South); Mia Le’Febour (Miss Gilly/Locasta, Good Witch of the North); Emily Riley (Ms Munch/Evanora, Wicked Witch of the East); and Shanti Kahn (Young Dorothy).
The show will take place at Burnley Arts Centre, Queen’s Park Road, at 1-30pm and 7-30pm.
Tickets are £6 for adults, £4 for concessions, £3 for BYT members and £18 for a family ticket.
