Elton John announces Blackburn show

Pop-icon Elton John has announced a show at Blackburn Rovers' Ewood Park stadium as part of his worldwide Wonderful Crazy Night Tour.

Tickets are now on sale for the gig, the announcement of which caps off a stellar year for one of the country's best-loved musical names, which included a headline performance at BBC Radio 2's Live in Hyde and the Apple Music Festival in London.

Despite having regularly performed in the North West since 1971, this will be Elton's first show in Blackburn, and will be looking to wow crowds with his epic live show, having released his 33rd studio album, Wonderful Crazy Night, to rapturous critical acclaim.

Noted for his typically-bombastic live performances, Elton John has always brought his unmistakable showmanship to the stage. His Meadowbank Stadium show was called “a hit parade of peerless pomp”, with others commenting, “every song was note perfect, packed with the kind of energy that belies his years.”

On having Elton coming to perform, Blackburn Rovers Director Mike Cheston said: “We are delighted to confirm that Elton John will be performing at Ewood Park next summer. He is one of the biggest names in music and has a following which few other artists on the planet can compete with.

“It is obviously fantastic news for the people of Blackburn, and the surrounding areas, that we are able to bring such a world star to the town and we are convinced it will be an occasion that the whole community talks about and remembers for years to come.”

The event is due to take place on Saturday, June 10th in 2017, as Elton adds to his already glowing mantra of over 4,000 liver performances in some of the world's premier musical locations, selling more than 250 million records, and winning multiple Grammys and BRITs, and even an Oscar and a Tony Award.
