Burnley Youth Theatre took audiences on a colourful journey during the town’s first ever literary festival, cruising through time and exploring cultures from around the world.

In Once Around the Sun, a new show for early years, Taylor Barnes and Abdul Salek played Willow and The Music Man, traversing land and sea for 365 days to hear cross-cultural stories.

The show was set in a magical world to live music and included an interactive session allowing youngsters to play with various musical instruments and explore objects picked up by Willow during her travels.

The theatre group also debuted its new Rep Company in the high street, donning masks and delivering a courtly dance plus extracts from Shakespeare’s sonnets and plays, such as Macbeth, The Tempest and As You Like It.

The company now plans to devise a piece for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
