Shoppers flock to opening of new Burnley store

The national retailer opened its doors at 9am - with the first 20 lucky customers bagging themselves a £30 golden ticket to spend in the branch.

Shoppers were expressing their delight at the latest addition to The Charter Walk Shopping Centre, and are now keen to see even more affordable shops brought into the town.

Sylvia Birney (56) said: “I usually have to go out of town to go to Peacocks, so I am really pleased.

“I am excited because I am going on holiday today, and will be able to get myself a bargain.

“We do need more stores around here like this - we need a Primark next.”

And Karen Williams (47) added: “It is really good for the town centre and it probably will stop me thinking about leaving the town to do my shopping.”

Drinks and sweets are being handed out by staff, and a charitable donation of £5,000 was made to Pendleside Hospice at around 9-30am. Fifteen full-time, part-time and management jobs have been created as a result of the new store.

Divisional manager Sharon Lamb said: “We used to trade in Burnley a couple of years ago, and so we are thrilled to be back.

“We are pleased to be supporting local communities and high streets.”
