Burnley fashion designer wants to start his own label

A YOUNG Burnley man with a keen eye for fashion is hoping some of his clothing designs for spring/summer 2012 will be turned into his own label range.

Alex O’ Jumah (24) is in his final year at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in Preston studying a for a BA in digital design for fashion and has already been nominated for a portfolio award.

Alex’s street-style designs are included in an impressive collection of art displayed around the university campus showcasing talent from final year students.

Courses involved in the art and design exhibition which is on public view in the Edward, Hanover and Victoria buildings, include fine art, fashion, graphic design, journalism, product design, photography, ceramics, illustration, games design, textiles, animation, advertising and interior design.

Head of the School of Art, Design and Performance Glenda Brindle said: “Art, design and performing arts students at UCLan have a history of producing high quality work and winning awards.

“Only this week a fashion student has been given the title of best womenswear graduate collection in the UK. The Art and Design Degree Show gives the public a great opportunity to see what excellent and unique work these students have produced across a wide range of creative disciplines.”

Alex added: “I have a passion for fashion. The course at UCLan has helped me develop my skills even further.”

After finishing his degree, Alex is hoping to secure a job within the design industry.
