Popular drag artist Zanadu Minnelli is preparing to hang up her wig and go out with a bang by hosting a huge cabaret evening for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
“The King Meets A Queen” which will also feature local Elvis tribute act Jared Warne, will be Zanadu’s after almost 18 years in the business.
Creator Jay Howarth from Burnley and his alter ego have become a well-known face.
He said: “I decided to raise money for the British Heart Foundation because after losing my father to a heart attack 21 years ago, this charity is dear to me. My youngest brother has run four London Marathons and my sister has done a tandem skydive for the charity so thought I better do my bit.
“Now I’m not adventurous at all but I can sing and thought this would be the perfect idea to raise some money for the BHF.”
Jay has decided this would be the best way to say goodbye to a big part of his life.
He added: “Putting this show together means a lot to me and my family as it raises awareness to a charity that is very close to us all so I just had to let Zanadu have one last outing.
“The event is going to be a fantastic night as I finally get the chance to work on stage with my friend, local Elvis tribute act Jared Warne. I hope to raise about £1,000 for the British Heart Foundation’s vital work but more would be better.”
Dan McNally, fund-raising volunteer manager for the British Heart Foundation, said: “Heart disease can affect anyone, young, old, male or female – it doesn’t discriminate.
“We really appreciate the huge effort that people like Zanadu/Jay put into raising funds for the charity to enable us to continue our life saving work.”

The event is to be held on Sunday, September 22nd at The Burnley League, Richard Street, Burnley, from 6pm, with a raffle, charity auction and the show, which starts at 7-30pm.
Tickets are available from Jay at £5 each by calling 07794865637.
