Talented performers from a Burnley school are hoping to dance their way to success with the opening of a new dance academy.

Blessed Trinity RC College has started the academy for young people who are classed as gifted and talented.

Dance and drama teacher Ms Shelley Ogden said: “We decided to start this for our gifted and talented students and it’s the first year it has run and been a huge success.

“We had 40 students for rehearsals and selected nine from Years 8 to 11. They are all girls, it was open to boys as well and there was one selected but I think he was overawed. Hopefully we will have more boys when we run it again next year.

“The current girls love it though. It’s extra-curricular and we have professional dancers who come into the school to work with them as well as working on performances.”
