Hundeds of real ale fans had a barrel of fun at Padiham Town Hall’s first ever beer festival.

Around 800 visitors flocked through the doors at the two-day event held to raise money for the Mayor’s Fund.

Drinkers enjoyed 45 different beer and ciders on the pumps laid on by Ramsbottom’s award-winning Irwell Works Brewery.

Punters enjoyed bands and live music including classics from Padiham duo “Blast from the Past”.

More than £1,000 has been raised so far and organisers said the festival was such a success that it could return as a three-day event in 2015.

Padiham Mayor Coun. Vince Pridden said: “It has been a great success. Everybody who came really enjoyed themselves and had a fantastic night.

“Saturday night was absolutely heaving and people thought it was an excellent idea.”

Mark Briggs, whose Talking Beer column appears in the Burnley Express, said: “It was a superb atmosphere. There were so many great beers on that people had never tried before.

“It was a great first festival and could become a successful annual event.”
