SOME stunning photographs are needed to bring a town centre sculpture back to life.
And Burnley’s amateur photographers are being invited to submit their best shots for consideration for display in the outdoor gallery that is the Observatory on Burnley bus station.
The gallery that people can view through slide viewers in the cast iron and aluminium structure presents a portrait of Burnley in images and words as seen through the eyes of people who live, work or study in the town.
Salford artist Noah Rose created the six tonne Observatory for people to look at the images which record different aspects of the town and its people.
He said: “At first glance, some images appear ordinary, some are surprising, some may cause the viewer to look in new ways.”
Some of the images also include short poems based on predictions, hopes and dreams for the future of Burnley made by members of the public who volunteered to enter a “future predictions” booth created as part of the project.
The artist has been developing, designing and making artworks for public spaces across the UK for several years. He has also recently made a 4m-high beating metal heart for Macnas Theatre Arts in Galway, Ireland, and is currently working on a public art project for five towns across the Isle of Man.
Now Burnley Council want to bring a new perspective to the Observatory with some new pictures showing Burnley again through the eyes of residents. People are invited to submit any pictures they wish to be considered for inclusion.
Helen Jones, the Cultural Development Manager with the council, said: “It can be of anything as long as it refects life in Burnley as they see it, it could be their favourite spot, their own street, whatever they feel.”
