MILESTONE: Fort Vale Engineering has turned 45 (s)

A FAMILY fun day in Simonstone marked the 45th anniversary of a multi-award winning firm.

Fort Vale Engineering, based at Calder Vale Park, celebrated the milestone with a host of activities, including a bouncy castle, go-karting, a live owl display, football, a martial arts demonstration, a Wii tent and factory tours.

There was also free barbecue food and ice cream for all, and directors Mr Kevin Singh and Mr Peter Staveley raised money for charity by volunteering to get wet in the stocks.

Mr Ted Fort OBE was in attendance as the guest of honour.

Managing Director Mr Ian Wilson, who has worked for Fort Vale since 1978, said: “I am particularly pleased to have been able to offer training to so many people over the years, both apprentices and adults, and to see them moving forwards in the company gives me great satisfaction. These are the people who will help write the future chapters of Fort Vale’s story.

“The open day at Simonstone, to celebrate this anniversary, was a great a success and enjoyed by all who were able to attend.

“I look forward to celebrating our next big milestone, our golden anniversary in 2017.”

Fort Vale was established in 1967 in Nelson by Ted Fort and, 45 years on from his first valve design, is now a world leader in the precision manufacture of valves and fittings for transportation in the road tanker and tank container industries.
