Three young cricketers from the town are celebrating county call-ups.
Lowerhouse’s Annabelle Uttley and Liberty Heap-Gibbons, both aged 10, and Burnley’s Phoebe Johnstone, nine, have been selected for the Lancashire County Under 11s’ girls team.
The trio got the nod for the 14-strong Red Rose squad after three stages of training and trials.
For Liberty, this is her second season with the county, while Annabelle and Phoebe are called up for the first time.
Liberty is a technically correct all-rounder, while Annabelle, who joined Lowerhouse in 2013, is also an all-rounder .
Both girls are competent wicket keepers as well.
Phoebe, meanwhile, attends Briercliffe Primary School in Year 5.
She has been selected as the team wicket keeper, and is a right handed batswoman and medium-pace seam bowler.
She plays for Burnley at Under 9s and Under 11s age groups.
Team manager for Liberty and Annabelle at Lowerhouse, Eric Haworth, said: “This is very good news for the girls and really is a credit to how well they played last season for the Under 9s and 11s, and how hard that they work at their game.”
