The Liverpool Road veteran, who is nearing his 50th birthday, finished unbeaten on 13 against Ramsbottom to pass 16,000 runs.

Skipper Ben Heap opened with a knock of 69 in the 37-run triumph against the defending champions while professional Ockert Erasmus chipped in with a half-century.

Joey Hawke also reached 30 as ‘House closed on 192-6.

Erasmus then took 4-31 in the reply, with Toqir Hussain and Paddy Martin claiming two wickets apiece, as the hosts got off to the best possible start.

“It’s an unbelievable achievement from a gentleman,” Heap told the Lancashire League website. “I couldn’t be happier for him. He’s the best amateur Lowerhouse have ever produced.”

Elsewhere, Burnley were beaten by four wickets against newcomers Clitheroe at Chatburn Road.

Chris Burton finished on 30 not out while opener Liam Bedford made 28.

In the reply, Cole Hayman claimed three scalps.
