Shooting star Tony achieves sporting perfection!

BURNLEY’S former international shooter Tony Atkins has been presented with a certificate of merit by the Bury and District Muzzle Loaders for obtaining the highest possible score.

Atkins shot 100x100 in a postal competition against the USA, shooting an 1860 pat. Mortimer .45 calibre black powder muzzle loading percussion cap rifle off hand at 50 yards.

A former member of Team GB and twice runner-up in the Burnley Express Sportsman of the Year awards, he has represented his country abroad on several occasions in the past, competing against the best shooters in the world, bringing international medals back to the town and country.

As a nationally-qualified instructor and assessor for the last 34 years, Atkins has spent the last 12 months helping 16 members from three local clubs to qualify for their Range Conducting Officers’ certificates and badges.

Over the last 45 years, he has won over 200 First Division A Class medals and trophies at Bisley, the world-famous shooting range, with both small bore and full bore rifles and pistols, as well as winning numerous Lancashire Championship titles.
