Ridgewood School in Burnley achieved medal glory at the SPAR Lancashire School Games Disability Swimming Gala event.

Approximately 250 primary and secondary school pupils from across Lancashire met at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre in Lancaster last week to compete at the event, which forms part of the SPAR Lancashire School Games.

Ridgewood brought home 22 medals in total - nine gold, four silver and nine bronze.

The boys’ team achieved gold in all of the Key Stage 3 events, while the girls also made their mark, taking silver in the Key Stage 4, 25m backstroke and bronze medals in six of the other girls’ events.

Ridgewood also took a gold and silver award in two Severe Learning Disability (SLD) gala events.

Karen Stephens, chair of the Lancashire School Games Organising Committee, said: “A big well done to all the pupils who took part in the gala. It was a truly inspiring event, and all the children who took part should be congratulated.

“I would like to commend all the fantastic staff and helpers from the Special Schools who helped make the day a success.

“This year’s Games are designed to offer inclusive sports to ensure every youngster has an opportunity to compete at school and inter-school levels.”
