The Great Hameldon Hill Race saw 185 runners set off from Peel Park School field in reasonably warm and dry conditions, with light winds.

Last year’s winner, Richard Burney of Liverpool Harriers took the honours in 38 minutes 27 seconds, just over a minute slower than last year.

In second place was Chris Holdsworth of the organising club, Clayton-le-Moors Harriers, 18 seconds behind, and third was Thomas Corrigan of Barlick Fell Runners, just under three minutes adrift.

In the Ladies’ section, Christina Singleton of Trawden AC finished first in a time of 50 minutes 9 seconds.

Second was Lisa Parker of Accrington Road Runners, around a minute and a half later.

Kelly Whiteside of Trawden AC took the award for first veteran lady in third place.

In the two-mile junior race, 11-year-old Jackson McKay of Clayton­-le-­Moors Harriers won in 11 minutes 23 seconds, with Ella Dorrington of Clayton­ first girl.
