Although eyes were firmly fixed on Sunday’s Ramsbottom Cup final Read and Ribblesdale still had the small matter of important league games the day before.
Tables toppers Read showed no sign of distraction as they hammered bottom of the league Settle by 116 runs featuring one of the performances of the season.
Opener Jon Harvey was in scintillating form for Read smashing four sixes and 17 fours on his way to a memorable 139 runs off 135 balls.
Will Driver also got in on the act hitting 82 from 91 balls as Read posted a formidable 284 for the loss off eight wickets.
And that total proved too much for a Settle side low on confidence with Read captain Warren Eastham tearing apart the batting line-up to finish the match 5-73. Not content with his century Harvey also showed what damage he could do with the ball in hand finishing up with 4-59. Settle were bowled out for 168.
With Read’s lead at the top just three points from Barnoldswick and Baxenden, Saturday’s game away to Baxenden could prove pivotal in this year’s title race with just seven games left to go.
Ribblesdale meanwhile slipped to defeat away at Edenfield as they lost ground on the Ribblesdale League top four.
The Church Meadow side’s batsmen failed to get any sort of innings going as they were bowled out for 180. Edenfield had no problems reaching that total, doing so with five wickets to spare.
Ribblesdale are home to Earby on Saturday.
