They’re competing at opposite ends of the table but both Read and Padiham have got plenty to play for in the Houldsworth Solicitors Ribblesdale Cricket League.

Since beating reigning champions Barnoldswick at Whalley Road last month, Kyle O’Connor’s side slipped to three consecutive defeats.

Read recovered against Ramsbottom Cup finalists Ribblesdale Wanderers at the weekend - winning by three wickets on home soil - but they sit 28 points behind league leaders Clitheroe who won the title in 2010.

But a double header weekend provides an opportunity to claw back some ground on their rivals. They entertain Great Harwood tomorrow before travelling to the Marshfield Ground to take on Settle on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Callum Clarke’s Padiham will hope to follow on from their two-wicket triumph over Edenfield at Gincroft Lane where professional Chris Holt took 5-64 from 23 overs to take his tally to 47 for the term.

Sitting bottom of the hierarchy - five points adrift of Cherry Tree and Euxton - Padiham are desperate for form but face tough tests in the days ahead.

First up is a trip to Victory Park to play Barnoldswick while league newcomers Brooksbottom are the visitors to Arbory Drive on Sunday with fixtures commencing at 1-30 p.m.
