PADIHAM showed that consistency is key as they inflicted a first defeat of the season upon Edenfield.
Visiting paid man Chris Read ensured John Bushell’s side had it all to do at the Arbories after contributing 73 to Edenfield’s 227 total.
Paul Gallagher added 36 and Greg Smithson struck 31 as the away side looked to stretch their run to four successive victories in Ribblesdale Cricket League. Nesir Mehmood finished with 6-94 after an extensive spell at the crease and Padiham pro Chris Holt added two wickets.
But in response the hosts showed that slow and steady wins the race as numerous players combined with respectable totals to earn a one-wicket win.
There wasn’t any big hitters, just assured batting performances. Six players struck totals above the 20-mark and that proved to be the pivotal ingredient.
Kevin Hitchon opened with 22, Naveed Ashraf added 28, skipper Bushell 40, Mehmood and Steve Meehan both totalled 22 and Callum Clarke contributed with an unbeaten 31.
The victory lifted Padiham to sixth in the league table.
