Padiham and Read have contrasting fortunes in the cup – while Lancashire League suffers washout!

Burnley’s uncomfortable wait for a Lancashire Cricket League victory in 2014 was prolonged after rain interrupted the weekend schedule.

Bharat Tripathi’s side had been due to entertain Nelson in the mini-derby at Turf Moor on Sunday, but the inclement conditions prevented any play at all.

The outcome ensures that the Worsley Cup winners will remain rooted to the bottom of the division for at least another week.

Elsewhere, Lowerhouse’s clash with Colne at the Horsfield suffered the same fate. Both matches will now be replayed on Saturday, May 31st.

The forthcoming double header weekend will see Burnley travel to Rishton on Saturday, before starting the defence of their cup crown against Colne on home soil on Sunday.

Lowerhouse will host Todmorden in the league before travelling to Thorneyholme Road to take on Accrington in the opening round of the Worsley Cup.

Meanwhile, in the Houldsworth Solicitors Ribblesdale Cricket League, Padiham advanced to the second round of the Ramsbottom Cup by virtue of a bowl out triumph, though Read were dumped out of the competition in an identical conclusion to their tie.

With play unable to go ahead, Callum Clarke’s men beat Euxton 2-1 at Balshaw Park, while a single wicket strike proved enough for Barnoldswick at Whalley Road as they saw off Kyle O’Connor’s 2011 finalists.

Padiham will now take on Clitheroe at the Arbories in the quarter-final of the competition on Sunday, June 15th.

Padiham travel to New Lane to face Oswaldtwistle Immanuel in a league encounter on Saturday, while Read host league newcomers Brinscall at Whalley Road.
